About Me

I began running during my sophomore year of college in 2007 to combat a bit of freshman weight gain that I wasn't too happy with. I had heard that running was supposed to be hard at first and that you had to get through a period of hating it before you could really start to enjoy it, but running came easy to me and gains came very quickly. Unfortunately at that time I was extremely naive to the warning signs of overtraining and had no way of knowing how damaging running injuries could really be. I quickly found myself in a vicious cycle of over training, injury, and weeks of inactivity to recover; I would do this over and over again for the next several years, but each time I was sidelined I got a little bit smarter about training and taking care of myself.

Now I take things pretty slow when it comes to training and building endurance, at least a lot slower than when I first started out, and as the years have gone by I have since incorporated a wide variety of preventative measures to help keep injury at bay. Somewhere along the way I realized it was a lot more fun to be consistent about my running than it was to overdo it at every opportunity. I definitely still make mistakes when it comes to training, but I've really come a long way in terms of knowing when to push it and when to back off.

Running has become a big part of my life, and I guess not too surprisingly given my somewhat obsessive nature, I also enjoy all things related to the sport, including reading about it. This blog serves as a way to communicate my own personal struggles and triumphs with running, as well as to review books that other runners might find interesting.
